about me

hello and welcome to my peaceful corner of the internet where i will be sharing my love of books, reading and my journey through academia. i am an english literature student at the university of warwick but am set to complete an intercalated year abroad in berlin at freie universistat. having started a bookstagram account in early 2022 and really finding my feet within the community, i had decided to start a blog where i can continue to share more of my thoughts; so, that being said, welcome to maddisonreadsbooks.

follow me over there @maddisonreadsbooks.

my journey in academia so far has been interesting to say the least. i have (for the most part) always enjoyed school. the humanities were always my passion as they allowed me to explore my own comprehension of the world that surrounded me. however, coming to doing my alevels was a scary time. only deciding a year before sixth form that i actually wanted to go to university instead of joining the navy meant i needed to get my head down and decide what i actually wanted to do with my life. it was after a conversation with my beloved english teacher that i realised choosing what i was passionate about was a viable option. so that's what I did and here I am now 2 years into my undergraduate degree at the university of warwick about to relocate my whole life to berlin. obviously life isn't ever as smooth sailing as it sounds. I had various moments of tears and frustration being the "covid" year, not being able to sit my alevels and not having the "normal" freshers experience, so much so i did question dropping out during my first month or so at university. (+ but i do put this down to the fact that i had been cooped up with strangers who all had covid.) I finished first year with high hopes for second year. i was hopeful for fantastic nights out with my friends, in-person lectures and seminars, but i will admit not all of these materialised. my studies were my constant when life got tricky as i found it easy to escape into my research or essay composition whether that would be on zombies and capitalism, the "damnation" of humanities subjects and so much more. I have come to realise i can't envisage my life outside of education, but one thing for sure is that I am excited to see where I can go with it.

thank you for joining me on this journey.
